BOSWELL GROUNDBREAKING 2008

Habitat for Humanity of Benton, Fountain, and Warren Counties broke ground for its ninth house on Sunday afternoon, April 6, 2008, at the corners of Mauzy and Columbia Streets in Boswell. Approximately 60 individuals from the three-county area were in attendance. Called the “Body of Christ Build,” this house is being sponsored by area churches, and many congregations also plan to provide workers for the construction of this home.

Board Members and area clergy participated in the service by providing prayer, reading scripture, and giving a history of the affiliate. The Prairie Players provided dulcimer music for the crowd’s enjoyment.

Construction Coordinator for this project is Steve Klemme. Shirley Johnson is the Volunteer Coordinator. The Benton County Commissioners and the Boswell Town Board (2007 & 2008) have cooperated with Habitat to transfer the property and remove an old house from the location, and those present from these groups were acknowledged. Many others volunteer their time behind the scenes to make each Habitat home a reality, and those on the Family Selection and Support Committee and the Construction Committee were also recognized.

Habitat is currently searching for a partner family for this home. As announced to those gathered, the family that had previously been selected for this build was able to improve its circumstances after taking the required budgeting classes, and thus is no longer in need of housing. Partner families must qualify financially to be able to repay Habitat’s no-interest mortgage, have a need for housing, and be willing to partner by working for Sweat Equity hours on their home and on other Habitat projects. For more information on applying to be a partner family with Habitat, call Polly Morgan (762-6353) or Sandy Tabert (385-2454).

Construction is expected to begin soon. To volunteer with Habitat or to get your church involved, please contact Shirley Johnson at 385-2975.
